CARITAS Afghan Refugee Appeal

NNT working with our PARTNERS AND the people of Burnley

WHAT A RESPONSE

Caritas working through The Parish of the Good Samaritan (that does so much to support us in NNT), approached us to help with this appeal. We were of course at the ready and glad to play our part in this.

St John’s volunteers plus local church communities, received, labelled, and stacked so much stuff! There were three lines of tables running the length of St John’s Parish Hall, laden below and above up to shoulder height! It was hours of intensive work, all done with great spirit and fun.

Our NNT volunteers were refugees from many countries including Syria and Iran. They set the room up and then did the heavy work of loading up the van to take the goods to Caritas’ depot in Manchester. So much committed effort working at non-stop speed! We also had help from an anonymous young couple who had brought goods from a mosque nearby, who stayed and got stuck in as well!

Burnley People came in their generous droves to bring  donations, from all parts of our local community. There were lots of different schools, churches and mosques together with other charities from across East Lancs.  There was a real spirit of kindness and determination to help, in a very practical way, those fleeing terror and oppression in Afghanistan.

Furniture for Education Worldwide (FEW), Calico and Emmaus had all generously offered free transport to take the goods to Manchester. In the event the huge FEW lorry took the lot!! A big thank you to FEW and to all three organisations. Mission accomplished.
